I don't know if any of you follow horse racing but this seems to be "THE YEAR" to watch.
I've an avid equestrian and have a very close relationship with my trainer Lesli. She used to have a client named Lisa Funk. Lisa Funk is engaged to Calvin Borel (this name may or may not mean anything). Lesli calls me the weekend of the Kentucky Derby and says she's taken the weekend off to visit friends and that I should watch the Kentucky Oaks, which is the filly race on Friday.
I'm to keep an eye out for Rachel Alexandra the horse her friend Calvin is riding. Thus I proceed to watch one of the most fantastic horse races I've ever seen. This filly paces the leader for most of the track and then through the last turn just walks away from the field to win by 20 lengths (that's retarded big). She sets a track record. Calvin says that this is the best horse he's ever ridden. The owner says that fillies should ride with fillies and colts should ride with colts. The Triple Crown are colt races.
The next day Calvin is scheduled to ride a 50-1 shot cheap-o-depot horse named Mine That Bird. I read in the sports page the night before where they had a run down on who to bet on and the exact words were "save your money." Les tells me that when her husband and Calvin make it to the track the morning of the Derby they find out that the favorite has scratched (dropped out). Calvin calls Lisa his fiance and asked her to bring his suit. She laughs at him but does any way (he tells this story on Leno). Thus proceeds to be an EVEN MORE EXCITING race. Mine That Bird is DEAD LAST for most of the race, so far behind he is often out of the camera shot, and then the last quarter mile it like all the other horses are standing still. Calvin weaves him in and out of traffic yelling at one jockey to get out of the way (you can see them scoot left) and then just juices on through a microscopic hole to win. Les told me that they can tell how fact they're going by counting the posts in between the quarter markers. That horse ran a quarter in less than 25 seconds. He was HAULING ASS. This is the biggest upset since the 1940s and the second largest payout. Lisa bet on the favorite. Lesli bet on Calvin. (also mentioned on Leno). Rachel Alexandra was 3 seconds faster than the Derby racers.
Fast forward to the Preakness which is the second leg of the Triple Crown. Rachel Alexandra has been sold to someone significantly LESS sexist and they have decided to enter her in the generally colt only Preakness (costs $100 grand to do this) and she's to ride against Mine That Bird. Calvin has to choose between the Rachel Alexandra and Mine That Bird as his ride. He chooses Rachel because, like he said, she's the best horse he's ever ridden (and he's ridden THOUSANDS of races). This was another INTENSE RACE! Rachel has position 13 (very low) in the race, where as Mine That Bird I believe was 1 as the favorite. Rachel stays at the head of the pack for most of the race and Mine that Bird is yet again at the back with Mike Davis in the irons. She's working hard against the boys and the last leg of the race, Mine That Bird (god I'm sick of typing that long ass name) puts the hooves to the dirt and books it to the front Rachel barely holds on to the lead for FIRST and Mine that Bird comes in Second. It was NUTS. She's the first filly to win the Preakness in 85 years and Calvin is two races in to having a personal Triple Crown.
The next race is the Belmont Stakes. Right now they're talking about not racing Rachel as that is a longer race. Mine That Bird is yet again out of a jockey (Davis has prior engagements) and hopefully Bird's owners don't have their noses outta wack and will let Calvin ride again. But the long and the short of it is the last few weeks have been amazing in the horse industry and I'm glad the poster boy for horse racing is not only a very talented rider but a wonderful person.
Les & Calvin
Rob and I are waiting for the towncar to come pick us up to take us to the airport. This time tomorrow I'll be strolling Paris. Then Sunday it's to Barcelona. Monday we embark the Brilliance of the Seas to Sicily, Athens, Rhodes, Cyprus, Egypt and Malta.
See you in two weeks with tons of pictures.
Sincerely
Mrs. Murphy
Things that are going on.
- I'm planning a nice classy wedding. Mine to be precise. It's going to be fantastic
- The honeymoon can't come soon enough.
- I bought Rob's wedding band and it's EXACTLY what we were looking for.
- I started P90X two weeks and three days ago and it's like fitness heroin. You hate it but you can't stop. It's probably the most intense work out regiment I've ever had and it's supposed to show you the best results. We'll see.
- I did my first pre 1840s Rendezvous last weekend and it was fantastic. My friend Jenny and her husband and family do this every year. She's a third generation attendee and offered to feed me and shelter me for my first trip. A pre-1840s rendezvous is for people who like ren faires but find them too cheesey, don't like the tourists and need them to be a 100 times more hard core. It's set more during colonial and American frontier times and you're living primitive for a week. All your food is cooked over the camp fire. You live in a period tent. You wear period clothes, all your cooking utinsels and everthing are period and there were about 1500 campers. It was intense. I only stayed for a night but I want to do the full week next year.
I went shopping and bought a box for my tarot cards and the lady gave me a 100 year old piece of silk to wrap my cards in. I bought a sweet straw hat, a claddagh pin for my friend Dawn, a spoon ring and a sleep skin. You could buy all sorts of stuff. Rock candy, antiques, clothes, beeswax candles and pretty much a skin from every type of animal that would have been trapped 200 years ago.
We had London broil cooked over the camp fire and I had a little earthenware jug with butterscotch schnapps in it. After the sun set the Indians (real ones) did a drum circle with chanting and then I went and listed to the people play music in the "town". It's pitch black and we just have little lanterns and I turn to my right and there's this guy in FULL Red Coat attire and he looks JUST LIKE Duncan from Last of the Mohicans and I about lost it. He was ginger haired and everything. I slept in my cloak (which I made special for this) on a pile of sheep skins.
It was AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME
- I have way too much shit to do.
- Toodles.
Nailing Your Wife: Nathan Fillion and Aria Giovanni
Peanus: Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor) and Belladonna
A Very Peanus Christmas: Micahel Rosenbaum (lex Luthor) and Belladona
No, a friend of mine through the Wolf Pack Elite is a just for fun film maker and he writes these little shorts that are nonsensical and funny and then he gets his lame ass freinds (us) to make them. This is my acting debut folks. Be gentle.
I Present to you: Patty the Zombie Pirate
ALSO I would like to point out that I was 100% NOT typecasted in this role. Do you honestly think I would be caught dead acting THIS retarded?
ALSO ALSO I would like to point out that I am the Zombie Consultant on this work. Dawn and I worked on her "movement" and "vocalizations" I asked her to have a hint of sadness. Like a drunkard who's lost a bet.
I'll leave this at a picture show. With small commentaries. Saturday and Sunday were jammed full of costumes and drinking and Sunday night was the most bad ass party ever. I saw Darth Maul dance shirtless and chatted up Neville Longbottom.
Also David Gareth Lloyd is a manwhore
( Pictures Ahoy! Saturday & Sunday )
Yeah I don't want to go back to work. I want to go to Atlanta. The next two days are going to be hell.
Rogue
It's finally finished. FINALLY!! I hate green spandex more than one can say. After months of piddling around with this I've finally have redone it from my test drive in May. I redid the gloves and boots to match the version I was following. I cut up a super blond wig to make the hair piece and and made and then subsequently took apart the catsuit to replace the white bits. It was definitely a learning experience.
Version One
Version Two
I have yet to decide if I'm going with the mini streaks or the full bangs.
Here's my Reference Shot
So I went to home depot looking for a stake for Faith.
They had fancy wooden dowels that were too nice
So I asked a chick if they had round stakes and she askes....

| "A stake? Like the kind you would stab somone with?" |
Sister you have no idea. Well they didn't have a nice round stake, just the flat lame-o ones you would use in the garden. So I go searching through my yard. I have four awesome oak trees in the yard but they would all require me to do some climbing with some power tools so I decided to bust out the sculpy (god I love that stuff) and made one of my own.
It was rather fun making it and I had pulled a piece of bark off of one of the trees to add the texture. It wasn't quite intense enough so I went outside and mashed it agains the oak trees a few times and then "wittled" the end with the wire clay tools.
I wasn't overly happy with it until I painted it. Who ever suggested the Citadel Colors Ink on my Gorgo Wolf Tooth is my hero. That stuff is fantastic it goes into the groves to make a nice dark brown and goes on nice and thin for a sweet tint onthe flat bits.
Here's the finishd product.

I haven't been able to ride for a few months. I messed up my back in may and it got to the point of where I could barely move so I had to give up riding for a while. At least until my back is better. I do physical therepy and have to stretch al the freaking time. It literally is a pain in my ass.
Things are going wonderfully with Rob. He's been traveling alot and I miss him desperately when he's gont but I do my best to not whine or be too much of a pain about it. I know it's for his job and that this is only temp but still. Max gets fussy too when Rob leaves. Right now he's in Portland. Next week he's in Seattle and then next month he's in Chicago. At least he's racking up insane amounts of Marriott points.
This coming week is DragonCon. I never really imagined that I would ever be able to go to such a big convention and never thought I would be able to roll with the big costuming dogs. This is one of the largest conventions in the states and it also is the one that really showcases costuming talent. I am really nervous about my costumes but I received word today that really boosted my ego. I had entered my Queen Gorgo in the Wolf Pack Elite 2008 Costume Contest without any really thought to winning. But my friend Deven called and told me to check online today. I received Best Female Costume. That means that I was the woman with the highest points. HOLY SHIT! Tiney won Judge's Favorite. Congrats to her and all the people that won are amazing artists and costumers. I'm really proud to be among their lists and able to hold my own.
Here are the pictures I submitted.

But I still have ASS LOADS to finish before I leave on Thursday so back to work.
I will be bring the following costumes
Faith from Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Chang Sing from Big Trouble in Little China
Queen Gorgo from 300
Rogue from Xmen
UBCS from Resident Evil
and an Original Greed Concept
Also....
NATHAN FILLION IS GOING TO BE THERE!!!!!!!!!
As is James Marsters and Alan Tudyk. WOOT WOOT!
I haven't done an ACTUAL post in a while. Just little tid bits, but it has come to the point where I need to cover a bunch of things. I'll break them up in order of topic so the easy of read is better.
House
The house is wonderful. We've slowed down on the mad rush to get everything fixed and ready for people. We had a goal of July 5th since that was the day of our house warming. All the rooms are painted except the Master bed and bath and we're waiting to do that until we pick out bedroom furniture. I re did the downstairs half bath and upstairs bath so that it would be suitable for guests. Both rooms used to have wall paper. The upstairs bath had this god awful gray and white and pink paper that was installed when the house was built. I know this because when I ripped it off it was unfinished drywall underneith. SO I learned how to finish drywall and texturize a wall. We painted it a nice sage green and I painted the insets on the doors on the sink cabinent to match. We also replaced the light fixture and the wall accessories for the towels and toilet paper.
We did almost the same thing for the half bath butt I didn't have to strip wallpaper there. I did have to texture the wall though. We painted that one a nice brick red. It's a neat break from all the neutral tans and browns of the downstairs. You just open the bathroom door and it's WAM! Color!! We also replaced the light fixtures and towel rack to match upstairs.
The house warming went great. The food was very VERY good. We had three types of ribs. Beer brats courtesy of my friend John/Moshi. Those did cause a slight grease fire on the grill though. Nothing destroyed which was nice. TJ accidentally broke the freezer drawer. I watched him do it and I know he wasn't being a retard or anything, the front of the drawer just fractured into three pieces. He felt really bad. It's fixable though.
Health
Well my health is YET AGAIN up for debate. This time it started with me hurting my back with all the house work / painting / moving. So I finally caved and went to the doc to have it looked at. The meds weren't helping so she ordered an Xray which showed that I have slight scoliosis (sp) an old case of scheurmann's disease (not a disease just a deformity of the spine hence my slouching) and Degenerative Disk Disease in my first vertibra and tailbone (also not actually a disease). So she prescribes physical therapy which has worked WONDERS. I've gone to three sessions and from what I've learned to do through them (mostly Yoga and Pilates exercises) I've managed to be pain free. My fexibility is still in the works but that's getting better too.
What was also discovered on the Xray was an opaque spot. Which could, according to the report either be my vitamins or a calsified lymph node. Since I three honking big vitamins every morning and on this morning about 20 minutes prior to the Xray that was my bet. But the doctor wanted me to get a CT scan just to be sure. So on Monday I got up a 4am to drink this god awful shit before my CT scan. Then I go to the office and I drink more of this crap and it's FREEZING in there so my circulation gets worse. So I get that scanned and then they go to hook up the IV for the other scan and they can't find a vein, anywhere. Two women try three times, twice in my right arm in two different veins and once in my left. The first attempt hits my tendon and the last attempt I'm sure she was digging for gold or something because she was ALL OVER THE PLACE in there. She asks me if I want to continue and I ground out a no, if you cant find it in three tries on two veins in two arms you're not going to find it. So we skip that part.
I manage to not loose it in the office, but once I get outside I burst into tears. It may also have been because it was the emotional time of the month. But I was just a bit put out.
So I get a call and they say that they can't find anything on the CT scan (No fucking shit Sherlock, it's because THEY"RE VITAMINS!) but they want to do a special ultrasound and possibly another CT Scan. I haven't heard back about scheduling this yet, but I"m going to suggest just another nice painless bombardment of radiation so that I don't have to get stuck again. If it doesn't show up on the Xray this time, it's probably never going to to show up because they disolved, as vitamins are wont to do.
We'll see.
Rob
He's doing great. He's been ultra busy at work. He started look at ultra awesome honeymoon cruises so I take this as my cue to start planning a wedding. I hate this. I would just like to lay down a reasonably wad of cash, have everything taken care of and all I have to do is show up. But apparently that's what the groom gets to do. I have to plan things. So far the top contenders for location is the Lake Mary Events Center and The Grand Cypress Hyatt. The Hyatt looks especially promising in that they have complete package deals. I only plan on 30 or so guests and I THOUGHT we were aiming for December but Rob says May. I keep reminding him that we can't do it too close to Tiney's wedding or I'm a dead woman.
Also last weekend Rob cut his head open on a tree. He was riding his bike on the trail and a hanging branch caught his scalp and removed a 3.5" length. We went to the Heathrow urgent care (nice place) and he is now equiped with 7 staples. Woohoo. He's fine just a bit more metallic.
And that's pretty much everything up until this point.
I curse alot. Just so you know. I'm also shallow and easly swayed by cute men.
Thus warned, here is my review of Wanted.
I have two words for this movie
FUCK YES!
I love love loved it! I have one more Scot to add to my list. I did say a year or so ago that James McAvoy was one to watch. I will admit. I can be a VERY SHALLOW movie goer. I can forgive all sorts of horrendous cinematical errors if you plop a sexy man infront of me who is reasonably bad ass and occassionally makes appearances without all his clothes. In addition to this you add Guns (I LIKE GUNS) some bad ass car chases and some clever if hoaky lines and a woman so good a kicking ass I want to be her I'm a puddle of goo. It is a recipe for a Munky Movie.
Of course there are are always things to complain about. EVERY movie has flaws. Like the continuity error of Fox having high heeled boots one minute and then the next flats. But I'm a woman. I notice those kinds of things. If you can't do it in heels don't bloody put her in heels!
My worst complaint was the actual theater experience. I KID YOU NOT! There were at least 6 kids under the age of 10 in the theater and they did not all come from the same family. Screaming children, grotesquely fat people stuffing their faces loudly and best of all.... some fucking asshat with a low cell phone battery too god damn retarded to turn the damn thing off so every ten minutes I hear.... BEEP.......BEEP......BEEP
But I digress...
In the end, if I can leave a movie theater so fucking jazzed that I have to remind myself that it's illegal to go 80 miles an hour down Rhinehart Rd, it's done it's job as far as I'm concerned.
I don't know if anyone else has heard this yet, but Michael Turner (Witchblade/Fathom artist) passed away Friday the 27th. He succumbed to his 8 year long battle with cancer.
This is absolutely crushing news for me. In the late mid 90s I dabbled in some comic books. I read Gen 13 and WildCATS and they were fine and good, but I started my absolute love affair with comic books when I picked up an issue of Witchblade and was completely blown out of the water with the FANTASTIC artwork. The strong lines, beautifully laid out action, the detail and the best looking comic book men EVAR! And don't forget the breath takingly beautiful women. For me, Michael Turner MADE that series. He inspired my art and my love of comic books.
I was lucky enough to meet him in the late 90's when he and Top Cow came to MegaCon. He was wonderfuly sweet and congenially signed my FREAKING STACK of comic books.
I'm heartbroken but glad that he has finally found peace.

And that is why I have disappeared from the internet for so long.
